Environmental Health Research & Expertise: 

Margaret Kurzius-Spencer, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the College of Medicine and of Public Health in the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health at the University of Arizona, in Tucson, AZ.  She received her PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Arizona in 2012, but worked for over 15 years in the Arizona Respiratory Center on the genetics of lung function and pediatric asthma and allergy, and in the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health on environmental and occupational health research.  She currently is a co-Principal Investigator in the Autism and Developmental Disability Monitoring network and is researching behavioral and developmental traits of children with autism spectrum disorder with and without co-occurring intellectual disability. Other research efforts include assessment of exposure to arsenic compounds in food and water and its relation to urinary and other biomarkers of disease, the impact of nutrient intake on these biomarkers, and the relation between prenatal exposure to neurotoxins and child development.
