Research Project:

Jessica’s research focuses on the mechanisms by which Grp78 and the endoplasmic reticulum stress response stimulate cytoprotection in acute kidney injury. My experimental design will involve both in vivo and in vitro studies. Models for ischemia reperfusion injury as well as chemical-induced renal injury will be developed. To elucidate the specific role of Grp78 and the endoplasmic reticulum stress response in cytoprotection, cells will be stably transfected with antisense Grp78 RNA and mRNA, protein, and cell viability levels will be determined.
