Research Project:
I am an Assistant Professor in the department of Medicine.  I am a diplomat of the American Boards of Clinical Lipidology and Endocrinology, and I direct the Lipid Clinic at University of Arizona. The research goal of my laboratory is to investigate the High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) proteome in cardiovascular disease. Specifically, we are defining HDL protein phenotypes in setting of low HDL cholesterol, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and relating changes of HDL proteins to its function. We are also interested in the effect of fat challenge and lipid therapies on the HDL proteome. In a collaborative effort with the Molecular Biosignatures Analysis Unit at Arizona State University (Led by Dr. Randall Nelson), we obtained NIH funding to design a clinical cohort of subjects with and without diabetes and cardiovascular disease for discovering diabetes biomarkers. With a strong collaboration and mentorship from the Dr. Serrine Lau, I am developing a translational program to apply advanced mass spectrometry technologies for the discovery of diabetes and cardiovascular disease biomarkers.
