Developers of CCD chip share Nobel Prize in Physics
Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith shared half of the 2009 Nobel prize in Physics for their work in developing the charged coupled device (CCD, used in digital cameras) at Bell Labs in 1969.

Zeiss - advanced microscope demonstrations and free lectures
Zeiss will be bringing four instruments (2 confocals, deconvolution, Apotome) and giving three free microscopy lectures. Hands-on demonstrations of the instruments are available. Please sign up at the link provided.

Perkin-Elmer spinning disk confocal demo
The UltraVIEW VoX confocal will be demonstrated Dec 2-4, 2008 in MRB 330M. For more information and to see a reservation calendar please follow the web link. Volocity software will be available for analysis of images you may currently have.

The Cellular Imaging Shared Service
The slight change in our name reflects Cellular Imaging's placement within the Technologies group of the Integrative Health Sciences Facility Core. The organization chart in the administrative core shows the revised structure of the center.

Leica SP5 Confocal demonstration
Leica Microsystems will be demonstrating their combined spectral imaging and high-speed resonance scanning confocal microscope Nov. 4-6, in MRB rm 330M. To try out the system or schedule a demo, follow the link.

The discovery and use of Green Fluorescent Protein (and it's many variants) as reporter molecules has been a huge stride forward for research using biological microscopy. Congratulations to the winners of this years's Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Drs. Shimomura, Chalfie and Tsien.

Seminar: New tools for Live Cell Imaging of Deep Tissue
Angela Goodacre (Olympus America) will be give an overview of multiphoton microscopy, as well as new optical developments and functional probes that can be used with mutiphoton and/or confocal microscopy. Location: MRB 102 Time: 3-4pm

An Olympus DSU spinning disk confocal microscope will be setup for demonstration August 19 & 20 in the MRB, room 330M.

3D Live Cell Microscopy Course
The SWEHSC sent Cellular Imaging Facility Core manager Doug Cromey to an intensive 12 day course on imaging live cells using optical microscopy.

Doug Cromey invited speaker at ISMRM meeting
Core manager Doug Cromey was an invited speaker at the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine meeting in Toronto. The topic was "Good Scientific Conduct - ethics in imaging research".
