Yin Chen, PhD, a faculty member in the UA College of Pharmacy Department of
Pharmacology and Toxicology, will be promoted from assistant professor to associate
professor effective July 1.
In March he was named the 2014-2015 Young Investigator for the Inhalation and Respiratory Specialty Section of the Society of Toxicology. This award recognizes a scientist with fewer than 15 years of experience since obtaining his or her highest degree who has made significant contributions to the field of inhalation or respiratory toxicology.
Jessica Sapiro, a PhD student, in Serrine S. Lau's lab, at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy,
received a 2015 Outstanding Graduate Student Leadership Committee Award from
the Society of Toxicology (SOT). Sapiro is a fifth-year student in the Pharmacology and Toxicology Track, investigating how the cellular stress response mediates all-trans-retinoic acid cytoprotection against reactive oxygen species-induced acute kidney injury. The award recognizes a student representative who has made a significant contribution to the SOT above and beyond the basic duties of a representative. For the past year, Sapiro served as the student representative for the Women in Toxicology (WIT) Special Interest Group, serving on multiple
committees and authoring several articles for the WIT newsletter.
