Paloma Beamer, PhD, an assistant professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Arizona's Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, has been named to the Arizona Daily Star's "40 Under 40" young leaders.
Dr. Beamer is an environmental engineer and researcher at the Arizona Respiratory Center. The focus of her research is in the development of tools that can help provide more robust exposure and dose estimates and improve the demonstration of a relationship between measured environmental concentrations and resulting health effects, particularly amongst children and underserved populations.
In November 2011, Dr. Beamer was awarded a $666,000 grant to study how exposures to environmental pollutants may lead to the development of respiratory disease in children, particularly in vulnerable and underserved populations.
Dr. Beamer is also a researcher with the UA Cancer Center, the UA Superfund Research Program, and the Southwest Center for Environmental Health Sciences.
