The GFC offers real time PCR applications through three Applied Biosystem Prism 7000 Sequence Detection Systems. In addition, the GFC has acquired a library of 90 probes from Roche consisting of 8–9 bases that bind to virtually any sequence in the transcriptome. Researchers use Roche’s web-based tool to identify which of the 90 probes binds to their gene of interest and then design PCR primers that flank the probe. Using the Roche system, users can perform RT-qPCR for one-fourth the cost of TaqMan primer/probe sets.
