Dr. Jani Ingram (Diné), Professor in Chemistry was named as one of the seven 2021 NAU regents professors!
The Arizona Board of Regents approved seven Northern Arizona University (NAU) professors to be promoted to the rank of Regents' professor, the highest rank a faculty member can achieve. Southwest Environmental Health Sciences member, Dr. Jani Ingram, NAU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, was one of those honored with this promotion.
As a Diné scientist, Dr. Ingram has not only led in cutting edge research but also research that directly addresses the challenges facing Navajo and many Indigenous communities while mentoring many Native American students. Dr. Ingram is the lead principal investigator of the Partnership for Native American Cancer Prevention, investigates environmental contaminants on Navajo Nation lands and their impacts on health. In addition to her research, which has been funded by multiple grants from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, she has made a priority of recruiting Indigenous students and students from other groups underrepresented in STEM into her research.
