PFAS, a group of over 12,000 man-made chemicals, have been widely used in everyday items like non-stick pans and stain-resistant fabrics. Recent studies show they're also found in cosmetics, food, and even "green" products. PFAS are also used in military and firefighting foams, leading to contamination of surface and groundwater across the US, with reports from all 50 states.
In response, Tucson has taken proactive measures to safeguard its potable water system by ceasing the operation of groundwater wells and rerouting water discharges from the Tucson Airport Remediation Project (TARP). Both Pima County and the City of Tucson remain vigilant in monitoring PFAS levels and are steadfast in their commitment to public health protection.
