Problems in Complex Disease Biology
Genetics and epigenetics are for complex disease biology como agua para chocolate - like water for chocolate... you cannot think productively about the latter without a reasonably good understanding of the former.... The task of helping us get such an understanding falls on Avery DeVries, one of our own best and brightest... Avery is an expert in this field because she analyzes epigenetic data (and fights with them) every day... but even more, because she combines a profound understanding of guiding conceptual principles with a superb command of the computational tools required to extract from complex data bases the messages they hide.... her contributions to asthma epigenetics are seminal: her papers are vastly cited, and rightly so, because they are as insightful as they are innovative.
