It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved colleague, Susie Herndon. Her loss has left us all with heavy hearts.

Since joining the Southwest Environmental Health Sciences Center in 1996, Susie devoted 26 years of service as our Grant and Contract Administrator. She managed the day-to-day activities of the center, provided assistance to all units within the center, and coordinated activities with staff at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and other centers.

Family was at the heart of Susie’s life. She cherished time with her loved ones and frequently shared fond stories and memories with her colleagues. Through life’s many challenges, she remained positive and shared her good spirits with everyone around her. Many of Susie’s colleagues remark on her ability to retain her sense of humor, toughness, and ability to laugh in the midst of hard times.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Susie’s family, friends, colleagues, and everyone whose lives she touched. Her passing is a profound loss for our community. As we remember and honor her, please take care of yourselves and one another.

Susie's memorial will be held on December 6, 2025, at 10 am at the Cortaro Vista Community Church (8600 N. Camino de Oeste). Our Center will be sending flowers, if you would like to be included please contact Ariel Escobar at aescobarvalencia@arizona.edu
